Thought Record app privacy policy

Effective date: September 30, 2026

This policy covers the Thought Record app for iPhone and iPad, made by Everyday Insight LLC. Here, “we” means Everyday Insight LLC. The mythoughtrecord.com website has its own privacy policy at mythoughtrecord.com/privacy.

The short version

Thought Record has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics. What you write stays on your device, or in your own iCloud if you turn on sync. We never receive it, and we can’t read it.

What you write

Everything you create in Thought Record, including your records, ratings, and notes, is stored on your device. It’s protected by your device’s own security, like its passcode and built-in encryption. The app doesn’t add encryption of its own.

Anything the app works out from your records is also done on your device. That includes the Patterns screen, the note that appears when several recent records share the same worry, and a check for words about suicide, self-harm, or harming someone else, so the app can show crisis lines. Nothing from these checks is stored separately or sent anywhere.

Sync, if you turn it on

Sync is off unless you turn it on in Settings.

iCloud on iPhone and iPad. Your records, ratings, and notes are stored in your own iCloud account so they appear on your other Apple devices. They move between your devices and Apple under your Apple Account, and Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to that storage. We can’t see it.

Device backups

If you back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud or to a computer, that backup can include the app’s data, the same as for other apps.

What you choose to share

Apart from sync or a backup you turn on, your data leaves the app only when you export or share it. You can make a PDF of one record, a PDF of everything, or a summary for your therapist. Where a file goes after that is up to you and the app you send it to.

Reminders

You can ask for a reminder to finish a record, and you can turn on a daily reminder. Both are scheduled on your device, so no message comes from anywhere else. A reminder to finish a record can show the first line of the situation you wrote, unless the app lock is on, so think about what will appear on your lock screen.

App lock

If you turn on the app lock, the app asks your device to confirm it’s you. On iPhone and iPad that’s Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. Your device does the check, and the app never receives your biometric data. On iPhone and iPad, the app lock works only if your device has a passcode set.

Siri and shortcuts

Siri, the Shortcuts app, and the quick actions on the app icon only open the app to the right screen. They don’t read or send what you wrote.

Permissions

The app asks for permission to send notifications only when you turn on a reminder, and to use Face ID only when you turn on the app lock. You can change these at any time in your device’s settings.

What the app never does

The app has no ads, analytics, crash reporting, or tracking of any kind. It doesn’t use your location, contacts, camera, photos, or microphone, and it doesn’t connect to Apple Health. The app connects to the internet only to sync with your iCloud account, and only when you turn sync on.

Links to other websites

Links in the app, like the ones to our website, open in your browser, where that website’s own privacy policy applies. The app doesn’t keep track of which links you open.

Email you send us

If you write to hello@mythoughtrecord.com, we receive your email address, your name if your email includes it, your message, and any attachments. We use them to reply and to help with what you asked. Please don’t send us details about your health or a crisis. We can’t provide care, and we don’t monitor email for emergencies.

Selling and sharing

We don’t sell personal information or share it for advertising. The app doesn’t send us anything, so there is nothing from the app for us to sell or share.

Children

Thought Record isn’t meant for children under 13. If you’re under 18, use it with the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian. The app sends us nothing, so we don’t collect information from children through it. If a child under 13 emails us, we’ll delete the message once we learn of it.

Your choices

We don’t hold any of your app data, so there’s none for us to send you, correct, or delete. We keep email only as long as we need it to help you or to meet a legal obligation, and our email provider processes it for us. You can ask us to delete your messages, or ask anything else about your privacy, at hello@mythoughtrecord.com.

Not health care

Everyday Insight’s tools are for education and personal reflection. They are not therapy or medical care, and they are not for emergencies.

Security

We build the app so your data stays on your device and in accounts you control. No method of storage is completely secure, so keep your device protected with a passcode and keep it up to date.

People outside the United States

Everyday Insight LLC is based in the United States. If you use the app or email us from another country, any information we receive, like an email, may be processed in the United States or wherever our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version at mythoughtrecord.com/app/privacy with a new effective date. If the change is important, we’ll also let you know in the app. This policy is also available in Spanish. If the two versions differ, the English version controls.
